A Language Pedagogy Deep Dive: Teaching Welsh in English-Medium Schools

Good Morning, TDaPE Massive.

This week on Thinking Deeply about Primary Education, I sat down with Mathias Maurer to talk about second language instruction, the approach taken in Wales, and the features of effective language education more broadly.

I failed miserably to cut the episode down as the 19-minute section on effective second language instruction was just too good to break down. Instead, I’ve left the answer to that question in its entirety in the summary video. Still useful for sharing with staff but probably more of a staff meeting framework than a briefing aid this time round.

Plenty below to enjoy while you listen. I’ve asked Mathias for a thorough reference list and will aim to share it in the coming weeks. For now, there’s definitely plenty for anyone with an interest in language education to explore.
